This is a stunning two volume set featuring a Margaret Armstrong cover design.  This "Surrey Edition" is bound in deep blue cloth with generous gilt stamped lettering and decoration on its front cover and spine.  Decorative page borders surround the text throughout.  This edition is illustrated by some of the finest artists of the day, some now highly collectible.  The two books are in very good condition with mild signs of use including light wear at corners and spine ends.  Their former owner's bookplate is inside the front covers.  The refined style of the bookplates, along with the fine bindings of these books, inspired us to Google the former owner.  We found Edna Stilwell Doughty mentioned in the 1903 Brooklyn Blue Book and Long Island Social Register.  Two printed portraits, including Edna on her wedding day, included with your purchase.
