Exceptionally hard to find Susan Warner publication.  First edition with six pages of publisher's ads following text, dated "Jan., 1865."  Bit of tenderness at the front hinge, but a generally sturdy original brown cloth binding.  Spine cloth shows heavy wear with several chips (see image).  A few loose pieces of spine cloth have been secured with archivally sound bookbinder's glue.  Light internal soil with some margin dampstaining.  Fully legible and complete. Heavier discoloration to front end papers.  Rescued by one of our customers from the local Salvation Army store, this rare book, by one of the most popular domestic novelists of the 19th century, is very hard to find in its first edition.  Susan Warner's novel, "Wide, Wide World," sometimes called America's first best-seller, set the tone for the many popular domestic novels that followed its publication throughout the middle and late 1800s.  "The Word - Walks from Eden" is one of Warner's more obscure titles.
